2011 Ford Mustang Back to a 5.0

With the goal of pumping up the 2011 Mustang's horsepower over 400, the 2011 Ford Mustang GT arrives with an all-new advanced 5.0-liter V-8 engine.

The modern 5.0-liter four-valve Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) V-8 engine in the new Mustang GT will deliver 412 horsepower and 390 ft.-lb. of torque. At the same time, fuel economy is projected to be better than the previous model and unsurpassed in the segment. "This all-new 5.0-liter engine is the next chapter in the development of the world-class Mustang powertrain portfolio," said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. "It's a thoroughly modern engine for the times, delivering the performance and fun-to-drive factor that enthusiasts want, while improving fuel economy."

Online Business Degrees. Bachelor's and Master's

It is near impossible to be able to fetch a degree in a brick and mortar institution these days as we are all so busy with whatever else our lives demand. The problem is that that the world is moving so fast now that it is almost a necessity to continue your education no matter where you are in your career. Whether it be for just continuing education to keep certificates, or to go out and get a Master's degree added to your current just to compete. Not to mention the extra money that brings and the opportunity.

So we are relegated to trying to fit school in our hectic schedules, and the only way to conveniently do that these days is to obtain an online degree.

Places such as Western Governors University (WGU) make it much more convenient to get many types of degrees including those for teachers, or even an online business degree.

WGU is an online university driven by a mission to expand access to higher education through online, competency-based degree programs. WGU has flourished into a national university, serving over 14,000 students from all 50 states.

The university continues to open doors for adult learners who need flexibility to achieve their education and career goals. WGU’s innovative competency-based academic approach makes it possible, allowing individuals to fit their education into their lives, not the other way around.

2010 Ram Heavy Duty Pickup is Motor Trend 'Truck of the Year'

Anyone who has had the pleasure of taking a look at one of these can confirm that it is a pretty great truck. Used it to drag a bunch of metal tiles a couple weeks back and want one myself.

The editors of Motor Trend today named the all-new 2010 Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty pickups the magazine's "2010 Truck of the Year."

"To have our all-new 2010 Ram Heavy Duty named Truck of the Year by the editors of Motor Trend really defines how great this new Ram Heavy Duty pickup is," said Fred Diaz, President and Chief Executive Officer -- Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "The Motor Trend Truck of the Year Award is like a standing ovation for the Chrysler Group designers, engineers and planners who developed this incredible Ram Heavy Duty Truck."

Motor Trend Truck of the Year contenders are evaluated using six criteria, which includes design advancement, engineering excellence, intended function, efficiency, safety and value. To be eligible, a vehicle must have been substantially changed from the previous model.

"The 2010 Ram Heavy Duty absolutely nailed the award in terms of our criteria, from the attractive exterior styling, to the plush and quiet cabins, to the tough and capable powertrains, especially the impressive Cummins diesel, which meets 50-state emissions standards without needing expensive after-treatment technology," said Angus MacKenzie, Editor-in-Chief, Motor Trend. "It delivers the capability heavy duty truck users demand, with style and refinement they perhaps did not expect."

2009 LA Auto Show Video Coverage

Reading about it just doesn't do an auto show justice does it? Of course not. You need to get down and dirty and watch them bring out their Circus conductors and show you their steel and wheels to the point of delirium. No use hearing how awesome a new Corvette e is with no video evidence it here?

Fortunately for us there are videos of the entire show and their presentations listed here for all to see. Even if you didn't have the time to fly out there, or take enough fat burner pills this year to make yourself fit in with all the freakishly thin people out in LA.

Important Steps To Become a Smarter Car Buyer

Buying a car for most people is a responsibility that they don't take too seriously. It is just so much easier to fall in love with a car that is completely wrong for you. It might look great, and it might give you that feeling of something you "want", but it may leave a lot to be desired if you go with just the body look approach. At least dealerships don't accept credit cards, or many of us would be trying to buy a car every 6 months.

Here are some tips to buying a car that will help you slow it down a little and make a smarter decision. After all, you probably want to put at least as much thought into it as you would when you decided to buy your first HDTV, and had no idea what 1080p and 1080i was don't you?

2010 Ford EcoBoost Details, and 2010 Ford Flew w/ EcoBoost Review

Ford has introduced EcoBoost Technology in 2010 for a line of vehicles. The new technology combines turbocharging and direct gasoline injection to improve fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions; the first 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engines are debuting on 2010 Lincoln MKS, Lincoln MKT, Ford Taurus SHO and Ford Flex this summer.

For a more in depth look at the EcoBoost Technolgy, take a look at this page with some nifty diagrams to give you a better idea about all that in involves. Watch out for the actual link on that age if you are using Firefox. I got some freezes by opening the Adobe Reader file. Guess I should look for some new laptop deals because this computer is the culprit more than Firefox is I have noticed.

With the EcoBoost system in full force it makes sense to look at a vehicle that has adapted the new technology. The 2010 Ford Flex is a line that was introduced in 2009, but this year it is getting a major makeover, and becoming not just a car, but an athlete.

What makes this particular Flex stand out in this category is the 350-hp engine any soccer mom would be thrilled with, if not overwhelmed by. The twin turbos and direct injection along with variable valve timing and a plethora of other engine technologies make the EcoBoost Flex something special. With 355 lb-ft of torque it gets up to speed expeditiously and does so in a sophisticated style, with no thrash or bother. Rated by the EPA at 16-mpg in the city and 22 on the highway the EcoBoost fuel mileage is within an mpg or two of the standard V6. In our week of driving we managed 20.7 mpg with about a third open highway, a third rural two lanes and a third city. Full review.

50th Anniversary Concept Car: Corvette Stingray

That thing looks like the Batmobile doesn't it? Let's just say that the car is pretty bad ass no matter how you slice it. Definitely worth of appearing on your christmas photo cards with you if you had a chance to be seen with it that's for sure.

Chevrolet delivers a futuristic vision of technology and design with the 50th Anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept. A version of the model was first shown at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show and stars as “Sideswipe” in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The Corvette Stingray Concept represents both the iconic legacy and an exciting future for Corvette.

The Corvette Stingray Concept was developed as an internal design challenge to combine classic Corvette cues with surprisingly high-tech features, modern materials, and a striking new appearance. The car is well-appointed with a clamshell hood, scissor-style doors, ergonomic seats, rear-view camera with night vision enhancement, and a high performance hybrid drive. Interactive touch controls allow the driver to customize the power and efficiency of his or her ride and share it with friends via the in-car camera system and advanced telemetrics.

2010 Buick LaCrosse CXL AWD Review

While many still believe that Buicks are for old men/ladies, I have always really enjoyed the comfort of them, as well as the decent power they provide. They may look like they are not all that sexy, but if you don't care all that much about looking cool, they definitely provide a nice driving experience. I guess you can still wear some pond pumps while you drive to feel a little younger with your environmental help out.

Buicks have a well-earned reputation for appealing to older drivers. That’s not a bad thing. I’m older (well, more mature), drive my wife’s Buick Park Avenue when she lets me, and we both enjoy what the PA has to offer.

I recall when I drove the PA years ago that I called it the American Jaguar. In a sense it is, because the styling is similar to the XJ sedan and the performance, while not quite in the Jaguar league, ain’t bad.

The LaCrosse is designed to replace the Park Avenue, and, oddly, the one we had for a test was silver, had a waterfall grille and had Park Avenue-like styling. The only major difference was that the LaCrosse has bucket seats while our Park Avenue has a bench with a fold-down armrest that converts it to two separate seats.

The other major difference is that the Park Avenue has a 3.8-liter V6 while the LaCrosse has a 3.6-liter V6. Power is up in the smaller engine to 280 horsepower and 259 lb.-ft. of torque. Power reaches the wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission, better than the four in the PA. full review

Ford Uses High-Tech Goggles to Keep Eyes on the Road

Ford's Human Machine Interface Verification Laboratory, better known as its "Distraction Lab", has been doing research to help reduce driver distraction on the road. The final phase of its research into the cause and effects of distracted driving, is the use of high-tech goggles that measure the amount of time drivers take their eyes off the road to help validate in-vehicle technologies such as GPS navigation systems.

Ford engineers and technologists use the data to accelerate the safer design of telematics systems that keep drivers connected and informed. A nice bcbsnc health care plan is still recommended ;).

"Occlusion testing is faster and a lot more efficient than other methods for determining eyes-off-road time and the potential for visual distraction," said John Shutko, Ford technical specialist in Human Factors and Ergonomics. "In the past, we used occlusion testing primarily to verify other research, but over the past couple of years we've been able to develop test models with the technology that allows us to rapidly complete research faster than ever before." read more

2010 Jaguar XK Review

Image from theautochannel.com

Enough of the hybrid nonsense for today. Let's talk about luxury. The Jaguar is just one of those brands that bleeds luxury, and the smell of big money. It is a brand that many dream to have in their garage, but most of us just don't have the cash to spend on something like transportation, and for the most part showing off. We;'re lucky to have the spare cash to buy a Ladybug cleaner, much less a Jag.

Never mind that Jags have had a well-deserved reputation for quality issues (since eliminated thanks to years under Ford’s umbrella) and, of course, the dreaded Lucas electrical system (also eliminated). Jaguars have a certain panache that any manufacturer would love to emulate.

The 2010 XK is a perfect example of the direction Jaguar has been heading over the past few years and where it has positioned itself. For example, at one time it would have been unthinkable for a Jaguar XK not to have a stick shift. The new XK now has Jaguar DriveSelect, first introduced on the XF. This consists of a knob that rises out of the center console when the engine fires. Simply turn the knob to choose your gear (automatic, of course). Even after a week I found myself reaching for the lever that I felt should have been on the steering column. I guess you learn… full review

2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid Review

Time to get back into posting reviews of hybrids since gas seems to be creeping up a little again. We always get lulled into a calm before the storm with these things, and then some BS reason for raising them arises and there we are again. Way back up there. Following these things would make you have to purchases a huge stock of wrinkle creams to keep the age off, but what can you do about it? I guess looking at hybrids is the way to go. Funnily enough the rise in these more fuel efficient cars, which would theoretically lower the demand for gas doesn't cause the price to go down. Who would have thought the gas prices didn't really revolve around demand?

The 2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid is a Ford vehicle, and while most think of Toyota as the be all end all of hybrid technology, Ford has proven that theirs is just as advanced. Ford has expanded its hybrid offerings for model year 2010, adding the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan Hybrids to the existing Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner Hybrids.

And, if you're a technology-savvy person under the age of AARP eligibility, it's likely that you're not thinking "Mercury" as an entry-luxury car. Maybe you should - Mercury has moved beyond your grandfather's Grand Marquis. The Milan, and in particular the Milan Hybrid, is made with you in mind.

The Hybrid sits atop the Milan lineup, which is also offered in four-cylinder base and Premier and V6 Premier and Premier AWD models. The four-cylinder engine is new, larger in displacement at 2.5 liters, and more powerful, with 175 hp. In modified form it is the internal combustion part of the Hybrid's drivetrain. The 3.0-liter V6 has been further developed to now make 240 horsepower, up from 221. Transmissions are six-speed, with a manual standard in the base four-cylinder and automatics in the others. All versions feature revised exterior and interior styling. full review

Blue Book Report: Compacts on the Rise, Stabilization Years Away

According to the Kelley Blue Book website, the small car market is seeing a bit of a rise in value, after it using the best fat burner on values when the gas prices stabilized. They also took a look at what the whole "Cash For Clunkers" program did to auto prices recently.

"Several cars that might have been traded in were scrapped in the last few months through the 'Cash for Clunkers' program and new-car inventories are just as low, helping to drive used-vehicle values up," said Alec Gutierrez, senior market analyst, Kelley Blue Book. "The compact market may have actually gotten too low this year due to irrational behavior and the overcorrection of the economy and gas prices."

The 'Cash for Clunkers' program concluded on August 24, yet its effects are still rippling through the automotive industry. While new-vehicle sales for July and August outpaced any other month this year, September sales have shown that the lift to new-car sales was only temporary.

"Many manufacturers increased production levels in August as it became clear that the 'Cash for Clunkers' program was moving metal and shrinking inventories," said Gutierrez. "With that increased production call taking place in August, those new inventories should be hitting showrooms in the next 30 days; however, it remains to be seen if demand will be sufficient to support the increased levels of inventory coming into the market."

AAA: 62% of Americans That Drive Their Cars In Severe Conditions Do It Unknowingly

A study by AAA this month has found that the majority of Americans who drive their vehicles under one or more sever conditions do so unknowingly. AAA looked at the typical maintenance schedules of vehicles, which usually contain 2 different sets of maintenance schedules. One for normal driving, and one for severe driving. They found that many people are using the wrong maintenance schedule due to now knowing they are actually participating in one or more severe driving conditions regularly. They list these as the typical severe driving situations:

-- Drive on short trips of less than 5 miles in normal temperatures or
less than 10 miles in freezing temperatures.
-- Drive in hot weather stop-and-go traffic.
-- Drive at low speeds of less than 50 miles per hour for long distances.
-- Drive on roads that are dusty, muddy or have salt, sand or gravel
spread on the surface.

-- Tow a trailer, carrying a camper (if a pickup truck) or transport
items on a roof rack or in a car-top carrier.

Most Americans wouldn't consider most of these. Specifically the short trip ones since a lot of these are done like running to the store, gas station, etc. Living up north you are very likely to do this in the winter both as short trips and in salt infested roads. Living in the south you will do it in the other extreme of heat. What about that new RV you just got rv financing for and are stuck in traffic every time you take it out as you roll into a traffic jam for an hour or two trying to get into a campground?

I'm sure you can think of countless examples of yourself doing this, and it is likely that most of these are your typical driving experience.

AAA advises motorists they should:

-- Read their owner's manual and/or maintenance booklet.
-- Learn what the manufacturer considers normal and severe service
driving conditions for their vehicles.
-- Make an honest assessment of their driving habits.
-- Schedule service in accordance with the appropriate maintenance
schedule.

All common sense obviously, but most importantly is to figure out what kind of driving they do. You may actually be using the wrong maintenance schedule yourself all the time.

2010 Ford Mustang V6 Premium Convertible Review

I was going to put up a review about the 2010 Ford Fusion, but it was just too boring to discuss a mid-sized car today for me. Especially how ordinary they all are, and the Fusion even though re-designed, just didn't give me a fuzzy feeling today to talk about it while I'm sitting in a New Orleans hotel.

The 2010 Fod Mustang V6 Premium Convertible, however? Certainly a little more lively. Those who have driven it are calling it the best Mustang yet. Now that is pretty bold, as this car has been around since about 800 years before I was born.

The newest iteration of the venerable pony car is the best yet. While not as major a change as in 2005, when the long-running "Fox" platform that signaled the resurrection of the real Mustang in 1979 finally gave way to an all-new architecture, the 2010 Mustang refines the 2005-09 version inside and out.

The exterior changes clean up the Mustang's looks a bit, but the real news is inside. An interior restyling and additional soundproofing add civility without making it too civilized. It's still a Mustang, after all - but you can put your friends in the back seat and they'll still be your friends. And there's a useful trunk -- even in the convertible.

As it has been for a while now, the Mustang lineup is coupe or convertible, with V6 or V8 power in front driving a solid rear axle through a five-speed manual or automatic transmission. The 4.0-liter V6 is unchanged, and with 210 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque is nearly as potent as the original 4.6-liter V8 back in 1996. V8 buyers now get most of the "Bullitt" package as standard equipment, meaning 315 horsepower and 325 lb-ft, plus short-throw linkage for the stick and a polished aluminum shift knob. Both engines run on unleaded regular gasoline. full review

2009 Frankfort Motor Show: Volkswagon Reveals Zero-emmission concept, E-Up!

Volkswagon has given the spectators at the 2009 Frankfort Motor show something rather intirguing t o take in. A completely new zero-emissions vehicle called the E-Up!, giving viewers reason to feel a bit more comfortable lounging in their patio chairs.

It is powered by an electric motor with the capability of delivering a peak of 81 PS (54 PS constant) and 154 lbs/ft of torque channelling drive through the front wheels, the E-Up! can accelerate to 62 mph in 11.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 84 mph.

The E-Up! weighs just 1,085 kg. This figure includes the lithium-ion batteries powering the vehicle accounting for 240 kg of this total. Pretty amazing weight total considering that the batteries alone account for over 20% of the total weight.

The batteries have a capacity of 18 kWh which allows a theoretical range of over 80 miles. Through the use of proposed public charging stations 80 per cent of the vehicle’s battery capacity can be made available within an hour. Using a 230-volt domestic system would require a charging time of around five hours. This process is aided by a series of solar panels measuring 1.4 square metres mounted on the roof.

On unveiling the E-Up! Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Group said: ‘Cars with pure petrol and diesel engines – which in the foreseeable future will continue to be unbeatable for mid- to long-range distances – will be supplemented by cars like the E-Up! in coming years. And that will happen starting in 2013. The concept now being presented in Frankfurt very realistically shows how we envision such a Volkswagen with pure electric drive technology, visually and in terms of size.’

Animal and Plant Fossils Not Necessary For Oil and Natural Gas

This is something I just have to post here as it looks to be a major find recently. Swedish Researchers at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm have claimed proof that fossils from animals and plants are not necessary for crude oil and natural gas to be generated. Instead it is much more abundant than previously thought.

This finding seem to indicate that they believe the supply of oil is not even close to nearing its end.

“There is no doubt that our research proves that crude oil and natural gas are generated without the involvement of fossils. All types of bedrock can serve as reservoirs of oil,” says Vladimir Kutcherov, who adds that this is true of land areas that have not yet been prospected for these energy sources.

“Using our research we can even say where oil could be found in Sweden,” says Vladimir Kutcherov, a professor at the Division of Energy Technology at KTH.

Well well now. IF this is the case then I expect my gas to only cost $1 a gallon next week and the money I save will let me take a Myrtle beach vacation rentals reservation soon :).

2010 "Green Car of the Year" To Be Announced at La Atuo Show

The "Green Car of the Year" Award was created in 2005 by Green Car Journal, the leading auto environmental magazine, as the demand for more environmentally friendly vehicles started to rise significantly. As the demand grows even more since the award was introduced, it becomes an even more prestigious honor. Whether you are traveling a crossed the country in, or back and forth to work daily you have a pretty good idea about how the effect of fuel on the pocket book has been hitting everyone. In that mindset the interest around this award, and even the vehicles up for it become of interest.

The selection process can bee seen in detail through the link, but the short answer is that they select 5 finalists based on driving experience, and their research into current models running on conventional and alternative fuels are eligible for consideration of the award.

68.9 MPG BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition

Here we go. A car that gets over 30 MPG, unlike about 99% of the cars we drive daily around here. Of course the name "BMW" attached to it can't make you optimistic that the car is anywhere near your price range.

Teaming up with the BMW 320d, the new BMW 320d EfficientDynamics Edition is being presented for the first time at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. This unique saloon combines fuel consumption of just 4.1 litres diesel/100 kilometres (equal to 68.9 mpg imp) and a CO2 rating of 109 grams per kilometre in the EU test cycle with engine output of 120 kW/163 hp.

A combination of fuel efficiency, and environmental gift giving. Of course we haven't seen the price tag for this bad boy yet, so it is a little early to say it is completely out of our price range, but odds are that it is. When I have to do comparisons on price just for the best weight loss supplement, I doubt I can find the extra cashflow to buy one of these.

Intelligent System for Re-charging Hybrids

Ford and its partners are testing one of the industry's first vehicle-to-electric grid communications and control systems, which enables electric vehicles to interface with the grid for optimal recharging.

What this will allow hybrid owners to do is set up a timed system that tells the car exactly when to re-charge. Most importantly you can have the car recharge during "off-peak" hours where the cost of electricity for you is cheaper and thus lowering your energy bill and giving you more cash to spend on things like weight loss supplements.

This new technology - which builds on Ford's advancements such as SYNC , SmartGauge(TM) with EcoGuide and Ford Work Solutions(TM) - allows the vehicle operator to program when to recharge the vehicle, for how long and at what utility rate.

"Electric vehicles are an important element of our strategy for improving fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions," said Bill Ford, Ford's executive chairman. "This vehicle-to-grid communication technology is an important step in the journey toward the widespread commercialization of electric vehicles."

-- Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the trade-in date
-- Only purchase or lease of new vehicles qualify
-- Generally, trade-in vehicles must get 18 or less MPG (some very large
pick-up trucks and cargo vans have different requirements)
-- Trade-in vehicles must be registered and insured continuously for the
full year preceding the trade-in
-- Dealers must register to be a part of the program. Consumers should
ask this of dealers.
-- You don't need a voucher, dealers will apply a credit at purchase
-- Program runs through Nov. 1, 2009 or when the government funds are
exhausted, whichever comes first

-- The vehicle that you are trading in is required to be destroyed.
Furthermore, the dealer is to disclose to you an estimate of the scrap
value of your trade-in. The scrap value, however minimal, will be in
addition to the rebate, and not in place of the rebate.

To find out if YOUR specific car qualifies for the Cash 4 Clunkers (CARS) program you can find that information here with this handy trade in amount calculator. Just use the drop down menus to see if your car is on the eligibility list of the Cash 4 Clunkers vouchers, and how much YOUR car will get you in vouchers for a trade in.

New Audi R8 Era Begins with First V10 Models in the U.S.

On July 23, 2009, Audi launched the V10 era of the acclaimed R8 sports car by delivering the first two 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro models in the U.S. to two winning bidders from the 2009 Boca Raton Concours d' Elegance charity auction.

The two vehicles were auctioned off for charity and became the highest price a pair of Audis raked in at auction in the U.S. before their official sales release. The combined rake was $850,000 with the excitement brought by those wanting the cars.

the actual price of the autos was announced as well. The U.S. manufacturer's suggested retail price for the highly anticipated 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro V10 sports car will start at an astounding $146,000, with shipments to authorized Audi R8 dealerships across the country beginning this week. Guess I'll have to cancel my appointment at my orange nj dentist and start saving up.

2009 Audi Q5 3.2 quattro Review

The 2009 Audi Q5 3.2 Quattro is part of the group of cars designated as "small-crossover". Basically what that entails is that it is an SUV in a car's body. A small sedan with some of the attributes of an SUV.

The Wuattro really impresses in its class, and is also one of the most expensive vehicles in its class starting at over $37,000 and running all the way up to over $52,000. The Prestige Package costing $11,000 which includes: a cool panoramic sunroof, xenon headlights with led daytime running lights, Homelink, power tailgate, heated front seats, Bluetooth integration, driver’s seat memory, auto-dimming mirror with compass, power folding mirrors, Audi music interface with iPod cable, stainless steel trunk edge, premium Bang and Olufsen sound system, keyless entry and ignition, 19-inch wheels, Audi parking system with rear view camera, and Audi’s MMI navigation system. We also have the $2,950 Audi drive system and $500 side assist. Along with the $825 destination charge our sticker shows a substantial $52,475. Basically everyhting except your own personalized motorcycle covers

The car itself is probably the best in its class, however. Read the full review here.

2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid Review

Time for another look at another hybrid coming out this year. The 2009 Nissan Ultima is part of the 4th generation Ultima Sedan.

Like its competitors in the midsize sedan category, the Altima is a transverse front-engine, front-wheel drive machine offered with four-cylinder and V6 engines. In style and demeanor, the Altima tends toward the more interesting, less generic end of its class, and that has helped make it Nissan's best seller. The Altima Hybrid loses none of its basic character and road manners, while allowing Nissan to explore hybrid technology.

While Nissan hasn't built their own hybrid technology in house there is no fear in that regard. Toyota has already been there and they are willing to sell their research to competitors for a good price. Much less than what an in-house research budget would be of course. Guess they get the wholesale computers price. Read full review here.

2010 BMW 750i xDrive Review

The 2010 BWM 750i xDrive could use a bit of some fat burners on that name IMO, but it certainly doesn't do it under the hood. The 7501 xDrive is meant to compete in the marketplace with the likes of the Mercedes S 4Matic, Lexus LS AWD and Audi A8 quattro.

While I like to just watch video reviews (below) on powerful vehicles like this, you may want to see the actual specs in writing yourself, or read the review instead if you are hard of hearing. If that is the case you can read the full review here.

Cash for Clunkers Senate Bill

Hopefully you don't have your mouth full right now because this bill is certainly going to fill it. I'll try and summarize the main points, but you can read the legal mumbo jumbo here.

The Cash For Clunkers Senate Bill was designed to help people switch to more fuel efficient automobiles by giving them vouchers to help offset the cost. It really isn't as complicated as it looks there, but here are the basics:

1. $3,500 voucher if the new fuel efficient automobile is a passenger automobile and the combined fuel economy value of car is at least 4 miles per gallon higher than the combined fuel economy value of the eligible trade-in vehicle. It must be only 2 MPG better for eligible trucks.

2. You can get $4,500 if your trade in car gets at least 10 MPG less than the new economy fuel vehicle. 5 MPG less if you are trading in a truck.

3. The program lasts from March 30, 2009 until....

"the day that is 1 year after the date on which the regulations promulgated under subsection are implemented."

So...basically you can offset the purchase of a new "eco car" by up to $4500 if you trade in a car with fuel efficiency of 5-10 MPG less than the new vehicle you purchase at participating dealerships. Let's just say that your old car probably just took a mega Solo Slim drop in resale value friends.

GM to Work on More Efficient Fuel System for Malibu and Aura

General Motors has canceled the mild gas/electric Malibu hybrid and Saturn Aura that they were currently working on. The current early generation gas-electric hybrid engine system the midsize cars aren't selling well because they cost about $4,000 more than base models but only get four more miles per gallon of gasoline. Models equipped with a four-cylinder engine and six-speed automatic transmission, which cost about $900 less than the hybrid, get only one mile less per gallon on the highway and four miles less in the city.

So with that in mind there was little reason to continue the use of the system. Instead engineers are working on a more efficient system rather than settling for the somewhat mediocre results of the current one.

"We've seen a lot of people go for the four-cylinder six-speed," GM spokesman Terry Rhadigan said. "That may have had an impact on why they're (hybrids) plentiful in the marketplace."

He also stated that the "new" version will be available sometime in 2010 and that they will have 14 gas/electric hybrids on the market by 2012.

Although they are taking steps in the right direction they are certainly behind the trend. Their results are like a diet pill compared to their closest competitors.

Earlier this year, Ford came out with the midsize Fusion hybrid sedan, which gets 36 miles per gallon on the highway and 41 in the city. They pushed to get it over 40 MPG to help differentiate them from their competition.

Initially the Fusion hybrid got to 39 miles per gallon, but engineers were challenged to go back and get it over 40, she said.

"There's a big mental difference between 39.999 and 40," Nancy Gioia, Ford's director of hybrid vehicle programs said. "So we went back to the labs again and said there were some things that the team would continue to refine."

60% of Drivers Admit to Losing Their Temper on the Roads

Surprised it is that low really. Well...I guess the 40% who don't admit it are the ones driving like idiots...lol

Aggressive driving kills, says AAA Michigan. More than half of fatal car crashes involve some form of aggressive driving--speeding, running another driver off the road, tailgating or yelling obscenities.

While that may be somewhat true, I highly doubt those are accurate assumptions. Alcohol related accidents can involve any number of those characteristics as well.

A 2008 survey by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that 80 percent of respondents consider aggressive drivers to be a serious traffic safety problem. However, many of those same people said they drive aggressively. Relatively minor driving infractions--changing lanes without signaling, following too closely, driving too slowly, honking at other drivers--can easily escalate into potentially deadly altercations (Better buy HGH to put those suckers in their place) Not every incident turns violent, but 60 percent of motorists admit losing their temper while driving--also known as road rage.

75 Years of the BMW Roadster

There is a good article up on the Auto Channel about the first 75 years of the BMW Roadster.

“Many German motorists see motoring not just as a comfortable and fast means of transport, but also as a sporting activity. These are people who, once they see an aerodynamic car body with a long and sleek engine compartment, as well as a speedometer extending all the way to 150 km/h, feel that strong yearning for wide open roads simply perfect for driving fast, for Alpine passes just begging to be conquered, and for ompetitors so easy to overtake.”

While we are more obsessed with appetite suppressant now than cars, it was precisely with these words that BMW announced the Company’s first self-engineered roadster in 1934. And indeed, this concept with its six-cylinder power unit was destined to shape the future of the brand, extending all the way to the current BMW Z4.

"Cash for Guzzlers" to Be Debated

The AIADA newsletter reported that according to Automotive News, a bill to offer cash vouchers of up to $4,500 to people who swap cars and trucks for new, more fuel-efficient vehicles may be considered on the House floor as early as mid-June.

Where will this money come from? Your guess is as good as mine. I haven't seen anything that takes that into account, although I haven't read the latest "climate-change bill" either.

The measure passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee Thursday as part of a climate-change bill that also provides for the development of plug-in electric drive vehicles, but Sutton also broke out the cash-for-guzzlers provision and introduced it as a stand-alone bill Thursday in the hope of getting it passed more quickly by Congress.

The legislation would offer customers $3,500 vouchers if they trade in cars that get less than 18 mpg for new vehicles that get at least 22 mpg. Vouchers of $4,500 would be awarded if the new cars get at least 10 mpg more than the old.

The most disturbing thing about it though is that they are saying that the autos can be purchased from anywhere. Meaning that foreign cars are fair game. Of course this is something that is a good debate in my opinion. Does this force American auto makers to work even harder to catch up, or is this just going to push them further down the hole? Law makers may want to latch onto some term life insurance online if they do't at least try to help them compete for these dollars.

Audi receives the 2009 Award for Mechatronic Innovation

IF you have been stumbling around with eye cream in your eyes for the last year you probably haven't read that Audi won the inaugural Award for Mechatronic Innovation to add to their other array of recent victories. For Audi’s dynamic steering, which handsomely demonstrates the innovation potential offered by the intelligent combination of mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, and computer science. This award-winning technology ensures greater agility, comfort, and safety by intelligently varying steering forces and the steering ratio as well as via active stability control.

“The close intertwining of different disciplines and areas of expertise is a key innovation driver at Audi. This award is fantastic recognition of it,” says Dr. Ralf Schwarz, Head of Development of Chassis Control Systems. Dr. Schwarz accepted the Award for Mechatronic Innovation on behalf of Audi at the Association’s 2009 Mechatronics Meeting on Tuesday in Wiesloch, near Heidelberg in Germany. The Association’s panel of judges presented the award in recognition of a cross-sector innovation which constitutes an outstanding technological advance — made possible by pooling the R&D pursuits of mechanical engineers, electronic engineers, and computer scientists.

Great Designs in Steel Seminar Shows Steel Solutions to Fuel Efficiency and Emmissions

Besides just having better fuel efficiency, and reducing emmissions by using alternative fuel sources, there are other ways to improve both. The Great Designs in Steel Seminar, it's 8th Annual meeting, showed a few designs that will help in this regard.

"Since its inception, the Great Designs in Steel seminar has helped educate automotive engineers in using advanced high-strength steel technologies to design safe, fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles," said Ron Krupitzer, vice president of automotive applications for AISI's SMDI. "This year's program featured some of the latest developments in next-generation steels that address key issues in the automotive industry today."

Of those key issues, fuel-efficiency is one of them. As you may guess, the implementation of less bulky designs plays a role in all this. One of the seminars included the topic of Automotive Lightweighting (these aren't diet pill reviews) and Upcoming Energy Climate Policy Opportunities. Basically the idea that better materials, and less weight will help the overall fuel efficiency of the models. more

American Car Buyers Changing Habits to Mirror Europe

In the last decade U.S. automobile buyers have changed the way they go about buying their cars. We can just assume the most common sense answers to this statemen in that the economy and fuel costs play the major role, as well as the "Go Green" phenomenon.

Tighter credit, depleted retirement savings and environmental concerns are among the forces reshaping the U.S. auto market into something that looks more like Europe and the rest of the world -- where people buy smaller, more efficient cars and hold on to them longer rather than getting a colon cleanse every few years like they did in the past.

The U.S. automakers have not kept up with the trend and it is seen in the bankruptcy of Chrysler last Thursday, and General Motors, which is on the road to taxpayer ownership, have been sideswiped hardest by careening change.

No one is expecting Americans to turn into a nation of fuel-sipping frugal pragmatists. But most analysts see little chance that the market will bounce back to its recent heights.

"Our entire business plan is constructed around the idea of being a profitable enterprise at a lower industry sales volume and a change in the mix of what's sold," said George Pipas, Ford's sales analyst.

BMW X5 M and X6 M Prices and BMW Buyer's Guide

IF you have the money, or you are just going to splurge you may as well do the research to get the car you will love.

The BMW is a car of class, and performance. The anticipation of the X5 M and X6 M are obviously vehicles people are waiting for. The pricing has been announced, and it looks like when the X5 M and X6 M go on sale this fall as 2010 model vehicles, they will retail for $86,225 and $89,725 respectively (including $825 Destination & Handling). Here are some specs.

Also, while I was wandering around I found a handy BMW Buyer's Guide. Give you a bit more to go on than just reviews, as it compares them all and gives you the best idea for what fits you.

2009 Ford Fiesta Steals Europe's Top Spot

If you were going to be doing a bit of cad drawing for a super sweet automobile you probably wouldn't be dreaming up a Ford Fiesta, but that doesn't mean that people aren't buying it.

ATO Dynamics’ monthly analysis of the European new car market is showing, for the first time in a year, the hugely popular Volkswagen Golf has lost its strangle hold as Europe’s most popular model, handing the accolade to Ford’s well received new Fiesta. The Fiesta’s success is set against an overall European new car market which fell 9.0% (or 147,965 units) in March 2009 compared to March 2008, to a total of 1,488,386 units. Year-to-Date the market fell 16.9% (or 691,350 units) compared to the same period last year, to a total of 3,401,473 units.

2010 Infiniti G37 Convertible Review

The 2010 Infiniti G37 Convertible comes to the table with these specs"

Model: 2010 Infiniti G37 Convertible
Engine: 3.7-liter DOHC V6
Horsepower/Torque: 325 hp @ 7,000 rpm/267 lb.-ft. @ 5,200 rpm
Transmission: 6-speed manual/7-speed automatic
Wheelbase: 112.2 in.
Length/Width/Height: 183.3 x 72.9 x 55.1 in.
Tires: P225/50R18 (F)/P245/45R18 (R)
Cargo volume: 10.2/2.0 cu. ft. (top up/down)
Fuel economy: 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway (AT)
Fuel capacity: 20.0 gal.

Everything about the 2010 Infiniti G37 is top notch. It looks great, it has the tech anyone would love, has the power and handling for a fun drive, but has a bad marketing strategy. According to the review it is said that the marketing for the Infiniti G37 is being sold as a 4-seater, but reviewers say the 2 back seats are pretty much useless for anyone with actual legs. Having proper auto insurance coverage seems to be a must for riding backseat in one of these.

2009 Mazda MX-5 and Most Affordable Sports Cars

Ready to put the top down and show yourself off for the upcoming summer? If you kept yourself looking good over the winter with the best diet supplements you surely will want to take a look at the Mazda MX-5 this spring if you are in the market for a sports car in a reasonable price range.

The Mazda MX-5: Miata was rated as the most affordable sports car for 2009 by U.S. News and World Reports. They list thier top 8, and the MX-5 tops the list, or does it? Yes it does, but it shares #1 with TWO other sports cars. The Mazda RX8, and the Honda S2000.

What the MX-5 does however, is to cost quite a bit less than the other 2. It ranges between $21,000-$29,000 while the MX8, and the S2000 fall into the range of $26-31,000, and $34-38,000 respectively.

The Mazda MX-5 hits show rooms in Europe this spring with a variety of models.

Audi wins "All-wheel drive car of the year"

Just rolled out of my sleep number bed and felt like taking a look at some reviews for a new ride. So what did I come a crossed? The "All-wheel drive car of the year". Audi kicking more ass on the auto scene. What else is new?

Audi has extended its winning streak in the readers’ poll held by all-wheel drive specialist magazine “AUTO BILD ALLRAD”, topping two categories for the fourth year in a row. Two Audi models took home the title of “All-wheel drive car of the year 2009”, with the Audi A4 quattro winning the category “All-wheel drive cars between €25,000 and €40,000” and the Audi A6 quattro winning “All-wheel drive cars above €40,000”. 2009 Dodge Avenger R/T Review

the new Dodge Avenger is junior edition of the Dodge Charger in looks, but is a huge upgrade over the dodge Avenger from the 90s.

There's still plenty of life in Chrysler if the 2009 Dodge Avenger is any indication. If the name seems familiar from the mid-90s, only the name is the same. The old Avenger was a joint venture with Mitsubishi, built on the Mitsubishi Eclipse platform. It was replaced by the Dodge Stratus Coupe in 2001, and the new Avenger replaces the Stratus Coupe. But where the old Avenger and the Stratus Coupe were two-door coupes; the current Avenger is a four-door sedan. Certainly not as boring as it sounds, and even ipods owners can get into this ride. 2010 Ford Fusion: America's Most Fuel Efficient Mid-Sized Sedan

Not only are they the most fuel efficient, but they are the most affordable for their type. The new 2010 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, offer the best value in the segment with starting prices of $19,995 and $21,905, including delivery and destination, respectively.

The gas engine-powered and hybrid-electric models make people leap out of their MBT shoes at the difference between the competition in every area that counts. They win the war in fuel economy, power, technology and overall value.

"We've priced Fusion to beat the competition as it does in every area that matters most to customers," said Chantel Lenard, Ford group marketing manager, Global Small and Medium Cars. "This vehicle does more than compete; it aggressively positions Ford to take back its share of the mid-size car segment and sets the tone for the upcoming Taurus and Fiesta launches."

2010 Honda Insight Hybrid Review

Hybrids should start coming fast and furious over the next couple years. Honda leads the way of course with their line of green cars. Destroying all their competitors.

Now they are introducing the Insight in 2010. This new hybrid made its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Because of the state of the industry, Honda had decided to skip the hoopla and glamor and just put the new 2010 Honda Insight in the center of its display area. During the show, the Detroit Three bragged about coming up with new hybrids and electric vehicles in the future. But that means there are still two to three years to go.

While dreaming on your area rugs of your next car, the hybrid market should probably only contain visions of Hondas.

The 2010 Honda Insight is a completely new vehicle and has nothing to do with the original model, that was the first production vehicle with Honda’s IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) system. Even though mileage was exceeding 60 mpg, the radically styled first Honda Insight was mainly impractical because of its two-seat coupe configuration. Total global sales amounted to only 18,000 cars and Honda discontinued building it by the end of 2006. Of the new Insight, Honda expects to sell high quantities with annual global sales of 200,000 per year, and approximately 100,000 in North America. Full review

2009 Aygo Review

The Argo is one of the more successful "green" vehicles out right now, and does not disappoint with the addition of the 2009 Aygo model on sale now. If you didn't realize this your watch probably stopped so check out some Hamilton watches to fix this problem.

Aygo is a success story in miniature. Since launch in 2005 this small but perfectly formed Toyota has amassed more than 100,000 sales a year across Europe, its combination of low cost of ownership, contemporary styling and fun-to-drive character making it a top performer in the expanding A-segment.

Now the factors that have made Aygo a winner have been further sharpened to make it an even stronger proposition. The result is the new 2009 Aygo, on sale now. full review

BMW Named As Greenest Premium Manufacturer

BMW has proven to have the lowest average CO2 emissions of any premium car manufacturer for the second year in a row according to new independent research. Courtesy of its award-winning Efficient Dynamics program, BMW records a UK fleet average of 159.4g/km based on all BMWs sold in 2008.

Going green is as in fashion as wood flooring these days. BMW taking the honor 2 years straight is great for them, but seems to show that others aren't as close as we once may have thought to getting greener.

The BMW technology of EfficientDynamics is showing results. Since 2007 recorded improvements in fuel consumption by up to 24 per cent with emissions down by up to 21 percent compared to 2006 models. The technology has been around since 2006. To read more about EfficientDynamics, visit the BMW website link for the tech here.

2009 Lexus IS 350 Review

The Lexus IS emphasizes both sport and comfort, and the 12009 model hasn't really been changed a whole lot from past versions. Most feel that it didn't need any so you can expect that it is going to continue to be a great luxury vehicle. The IS comes in two models. The IS 250 houses a 2.5-liter, 204-horsepower V6 with rear- or all-wheel drive and IS rear-wheel drive IS 350, with a 3.5-liter V6 making 306 horsepower. Also as before, the 250 comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission, and the 250 AWD and 350 get a six-speed automatic.

So for those that are trying to look good they are going to find that the IS is going to do the trick, and give the performance. A combo of an IS and to buy diet pills for your body to look as sleek is a winning formula.

Details make a difference. Although there are no major changes to the IS, seemingly minor revisions to its waterfall grille and front bumper give it a more-defined look. Call it finessing the L-Finesse... As before, the IS shows plenty of identification with its larger GS siblings, but subtle differences in proportion and style give it a lighter, sportier look. Its width is accentuated by muscular wheel arches filled with high-performance, low-profile rubber, even lower-profile with the X Package. In profile a decisive wedge shape to the body, with the tail the highest point, and a near-fastback roofline give it the look that is more performance coupe than sedan. Full Review

CNN's 2008’s Automotive Winners and Losers

Hard to believe that any automobiles were winners in 2008. At least in America where people were supposedly completely broke, and gas prices were through the roof. Most were probably spending money on gift card for gas rather than thinking about a new car. I suspect that a lot of the winners are high MMPG cars, or even hybrids, but let';s see who was a winner.

The best selling car once again for the 11th straight year is the Toyota Camry, which includes the Camry Hybrid and the two-door Solara. So...once Hybrid already on top of the list. The vehicles sold 436,617 cars, according to Edmunds.com.

Not only did Camry have the best selling single car, but they took home the best brand as well. The year wasn't spectacular though as all brands were down significantly, but Toyota came out a head in the brand game, which typically was a fight between Ford and Chevy. Toyota just eeked out Chevy with 1,843,669 cars this year. Chevrolet came in second with 1,790,519 sales.

Take a look at the rest of the list including the biggest losers of 2008.
